About the business

Savcon is a busy engineering company manufacturing precision components. With around 40 employees, the Directors – husband and wife team Rob and Luci Stone – were keen to ensure that their HR infrastructure was fit for purpose and compliant with current legislation.

How we helped

Our resident HR consultant, Rachel, started by reviewing the existing contracts and staff handbook and finding out from Rob and Luci what they wanted the updated documents to deliver. The Directors were then able to focus on running their business while Rachel applied her knowledge and experience to the task of rewriting. 

 

What we did

  • Review of needs and existing documents: Rachel was careful to ensure that she understood the specific requirements of the business and she suggested changes that would underpin its commercial objectives and make it easier to manage people. 
  • Preparation of new staff handbook: We produced an updated handbook that clearly sets out all of the terms, conditions, policies, procedures, rules and expectations of the business, providing an essential reference document for all members of the Savcon team and reflecting the ethos of the company. 
  • Preparation of new contract documents: The new offer documentation provided the Directors with a template that could be easily adapted for future recruits as well as current employees. 
  • Ongoing Flexible Support: While Rachel was in the process of rewriting Savcon’s HR documents, Luci also asked for guidance regarding their bonus scheme and a disciplinary matter, and we were happy to help. 
  • Friendly, professional communication: We offered clear, reassuring advice and support throughout the entire process. 

Where we are now

Knowing that their documentary framework is in good shape has given the client more confidence when recruiting and managing staff. The documents are clearly written and logically laid out, providing easy reference for managers and their teams on an ongoing basis, making it easier to tackle any issues pro-actively and at an earlier stage. 

Luci now contacts Rachel directly for support and guidance with ad hoc queries relating to Savcon’s employees. This gives the Directors the peace of mind of knowing that they have access to high quality HR support as and when they need it. Moreover, they are not burdened by retainers or monthly fees and only pay for the advice they actually receive.
